De Soto National Forest

A 378,538-acre forest, the De Soto National Forest is set in southern Mississippi and features four-season recreation to any visitor. Although headquarters are maintained in Jackson, the forest surrounds the Mississippi town of Wiggins, settled between Hattiesburg and Gulfport. Desoto is one of six Mississippi national forests.

De Soto National Forest encompasses two wilderness areas: Black Creek Wilderness and Leaf River Wilderness – plus a National Wild and Scenic River, and two National Recreational trails. Popular activities in the forest include canoeing, hiking, and horseback riding, plus hunting and fishing.
