Tupelo, Mississippi

Have a Terrific Time in Tupelo

Tupelo is full of the kind of charm that makes northern Mississippi so unique, and visitors won’t have trouble finding much to see and do. Here are a few of our favorite ways to experience Tupelo.

See where the King was born.

Tupelo is well known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley and Mississippi travelers can visit his first home, which has been turned into the Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum, which proudly displays exhibits and artifacts from his early life.

Check the schedule during your visit, too – the museum is known for hosting the part of the Tupelo Elvis Festival and a variety of other Elvis-centric special events throughout the year.

Downtown Tupelo

Get rev’d up.

For car guys and gals, the Tupelo Automobile Museum is a must. There, more than 100 rare and classic cars of all makes and models get visitors’ motors running. It’s truly a gear head’s dream.

Go for a nice drive.

The Natchez Trace Parkway stretches from Natchez, in the southwestern corner of Mississippi, all the way to Nashville, tracing the Old Natchez Trail, a centuries-old trade lifeline. The portion of the Parkway near Tupelo makes for an especially scenic drive, showcasing northeast Mississippi's lush and unique landscape.

Go for a nice walk.

Running parallel to the Natchez Trace Parkway is the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail. Accessible via Tupelo, the five-trail system covers more than 60 miles. Bring your walking shoes and enjoy the canopied tranquility.

Get up close to wildlife.

Animal lovers young and old will get a kick out of the Tupelo Buffalo Park Zoo. The centerpiece of Tupelo Buffalo Park, the zoo is home to a wide variety of animals, from buffalo and zebras to lemurs and more.

Pay respects to the King in Tupelo.

Find a sense of history.

History buffs won’t want to miss a chance to explore Tupelo National Battlefield. The site of a grisly Civil War battle, the park now contains monuments to both sides, as well as cannons and other artifacts from the war.

Get out and stretch your legs.

Located on the eastern outskirts of town, Tombigbee State Park is a great place to get out and get active when the weather’s right. Wide-open fields, walking and running trails, playground equipment, and a gorgeous lake for fishing – the place has it all.

Let the kids learn a thing or two.

Healthworks! is sure to excite youngsters, and parents will love that the hands-on activities, exhibits, and displays are educational. Check out the Fun-tastic Exhibit Floor, home to the Big Brain Theatre and more.
