Visiting Central Mississippi

You’ll find a broad and diverse landscape across central Mississippi. From Indianola to Jackson, central MS features much to see and do. And during the fall and into the winter, this travel destination boasts a variety of impressive events, festivals, and more. Plan your central MS excursion soon.

Jackson will prove to be a premier travel destination this fall and winter. With a host of can’t-miss attractions like the Mississippi Museum of Art, Lefleur’s Bluff State Park, and the Old Mississippi State Capitol, combined with its proximity to nearby cities like Flowood, Pearl, and Richland, Jackson will be pleasant and welcoming.

Ideal for visiting families, the event “Goose Bumps!: The Science of Fear” can be explored at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science from now through December 30th. Be sure to plan your stay in Jackson for October when, from the 5th to the 16th, you can check out the 2016 Mississippi State Fair. Visit the Mississippi Fairgrounds and experience all your favorite carnival-style fun.

The fall and winter in central Mississippi will no doubt yield exciting college football match-ups. Head to the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium and catch a Jackson State Tigers game. On September 17th they’ll be hosting Grambling State University, and later in the year they finish up their home schedule with a tough game against Alabama A&M on November 12th.

Racing fans in central Mississippi make frequent visits to the city of Columbus, found to the northeast of Jackson – you’ll want to join in on the action this fall. Head to the Magnolia Motor Speedway and experience some of the season’s premier races – the 2nd Annual Fall 40 Street Stock Championship is held on October 7th and 8th, and the Possum Town Grand Prix takes place on November 24th through 26th.

Make the most of your holiday visit to central Mississippi. Head for the Mississippi Agricultural Museum on December 8th and 9th for the annual Small Town Country Christmas event. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day, this event will feature hayrides, train rides, live music, a complimentary breakfast, and Story Time with Mrs. Clause.

Pack your running shoes when you visit Jackson this winter. Give it your all and compete in the 10th Annual Mississippi Blues Marathon on January 17th, 2017. You and hundreds of other runners will follow a course through downtown Jackson, and portion of the proceeds helps the Mississippi Blues Foundation.
