Biloxi Lighthouse

The Biloxi Lighthouse has been a Biloxi landmark since it was built in 1848, adjacent to the Mississippi Sound.

The lighthouse was declared a Mississippi Landmark in 1987 and included on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Maria Younghans was the lighthouse keeper for 53 years. The Lighthouse is one of the most photographed sites along the Gulf Coast.

This historic Lighthouse has become a symbol of strength and resilience to the local residents, after standing strong against Hurricane Katrina.

Tours of the Lighthouse are available every day except Sunday. The Best Western Plus Cypress Creek and the Best Western Plus Oak Manor offer comfortable accommodations for those traveling in southern Mississippi.

Buccaneer State Park

Coastal Mississippi is a popular destination for travelers looking for aquatic adventures and fun at state parks. Found just inland of the Mississippi Sound, Waveland is a charming city and home of the Buccaneer State Park. What proves to be a popular summer destination, Buccaneer State Park seemingly bounces with activity, largely due in part to the Buccaneer Bay Waterpark. Head west along I-10 from Gulfport or Biloxi and check out Buccaneer State Park.

Southern Mississippi is an ideal destination and nearly any time of the year – Buccaneer State Park is a large reason why. There's a playground to keep the kids occupied for a bit, and the Pirate's Alley Nature Trail is a nearly two-mile long hiking and walking trail, perfect for bird watching. Be sure to check out Jackson's Ridge Dick Golf course, an 18-hole course yielding almost perfect views of the Gulf of Mexico.

Gulf Islands National Seashore

Coastal Mississippi boasts of sandy beaches and recreational opportunities on the mainland, as well as on its two off-shore islands, in the Gulf of Mexico. The two barrier islands, named East Ship Island and West Ship Island, are collectively named Ship Island. These beautiful islands are included in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, that extends into the Florida coastline. Before 1969 when Hurricane Camille struck, these wonderful Southern Mississippi islands were one island.

Get ready to enjoy the warm Gulf of Mexico waters with a day of snorkeling and swimming. Bring your fishing pole to fish for a variety of fish or try your hand at fishing for crabs and shrimp. Launch your boat for boating fun on the water or lace up your comfortable shoes for strolling along the nature trails. Stay close to the islands, in a comfortable Best Western guest room in Bilxoi and make the most of your time in Coastal Mississippi.

Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport

The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, originally named Gulfport Army Airfield, was established in 1942 by the United States Army Air Forces. It served as a training location for B-25 and B-29 crews for World War II. In 1953, a Combat Readiness Training Center was built on airport property, that is still used to train over 20,000 Air Guard and Reserve crew. The airport also began offering commercial flights in the 1950's. The airport's demand for air travel service continued through the years, allowing for continued capital improvements.

In 2005, the airport's expansion project suffered a set back, due to damage from Hurricane Katrina. The airport terminal re-opened in 2008, increasing passenger service from 1 million to 2.4 million passengers a year. The 1,700-acre airport offers service for the thriving Gulfport and Biloxi areas of Southern Mississippi, via its six commercial airlines.
