Traveling MS Blues Trail
Blues & Magnolia State Historic Sites
Appreciating blues music is one thing, but experiencing the Mississippi Blues Trail – a collection of venues, record labels, and radio stations where Mississippi Blues originated – is quite another.
Visit the birthplaces of Robert Johnson, B.B. King, and even Elvis Presley, or the sites of famed record labels like Ace Records, Malaco Records, and Trumpet Records in Jackson.
Mississippi Delta towns like Tunica, Indianola, Lula, Greenwood and surrounding cities yield many trail markers for blues fans. See Charley Patton’s gravesite in Leland, the Dockery Plantation in Dockery, and tributes to Bertha Lee, Frank Frost, Robert Nighthawk and more – all in northern Mississippi.
Central Mississippi – most of which is known as the Capital Region – means markers for Cassandra Wilson, Arthur Crudup, Tommy Johnson and many more Magnolia musicians. Don’t miss a trip to Vicksburg for the Vicksburg Riverfest and tributes to Willie Dixon and the Red Tops, or head to Canton for Hickory Street and a Jimmie Rodgers tribute in Meridian.
Sites along the Mississippi Blues Trail are found throughout the northern Mississippi Delta and central Mississippi’s capital region, along with southern Magnolia State and the Gulf Coast. Blues fans need do themselves a favor, and start making plans for Mississippi.
