Visiting Northern Mississippi

Summer days drag on across northern Mississippi, but the welcoming atmosphere across pleasant cities and must-see attractions is just right for you next visit. Soon enough it’ll be autumn and even more outdoor fun and local events and festivals will be on the docket.

The sprawling, hilly landscape that makes up northern Mississippi stretches from Tunica Resorts and the Mississippi River along the western border, all the way out east to the AL-MS border and nearby cities like Tupelo and Columbus. Plan your next visit and check out a wide range of exceptional state parks, raceways, and even unique literary sites.

The far northwestern corner of the state is where you’ll find Tunica. Be sure to spend some time exploring the area and some of it’s most exceptional attractions and events. On July 30th, make your way to the Fitz Casino and see a live performance from The Charlie Daniels Band. Later, on August 13th, you can catch the legendary icons The Commodores perform live at the Gold Strike Casino.

On October 14th, prepare for a real gut buster. Well, you’ll laugh a lot, anyway – it’s comedian Lewis Black live on stage at the Horseshoe Casino, found just to the north of Tunica along Highway 61. A little more than a month later, see the best local hot rods at the 17th Annual Delta River Cruisin’ event. Head for the Sams Town Casino parking from September 23rd through 25th to see classic muscle cars, street racers, and everything in between.

Out in Columbus, plan your visit for Labor Day Weekend and check out the Love and Laughter Tour – performances will be held at the Trotter Convention Center. See the likes of Lenny Williams, pop artist Iyse Gibson – pronounced like “ice” – and comedian Chestnut.

Closer to the TN-MS border, head for the city of Olive Branch, which yields easy access to the Landers Center – it’s one of the premier event and music venues in northern Mississippi. Plan this visit for October 6th and check out The Avett Brothers perform live – show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets range from $37.50 to $67.50.
