Visiting Northern Mississippi

The northern Mississippi hills are filling with the colors of springtime. There’s no better time for outdoor activities in MS state parks and at destinations like Holly Springs National Forest, and communities from Horn Lake and Olive Branch down to Tupelo and Columbus are as welcoming as ever, inviting visitors to join in with all sorts of seasonal celebrations, festivals, and special events.

Warming weather means it’s more comfortable than it’s been since the fall to cast a line and enjoy a relaxing day fishing in one of the region’s countless prolific fishing holes. Tunica Resorts, Horn Lake, and Ripley visitors aren’t far from Wall Doxey State Park, and anglers in Tupelo can try their luck at Trace State Park.

All the excitement of the “the Greatest Show on Earth” is on its way to Southaven, near Horn Lake on the outskirts of the Memphis metro area. Join families at the Landers Center (formerly DeSoto Civic Center) at 7 p.m. on March 27th to be a part of the fun.

Scores of self-proclaimed "nerds" take over Tupelo from June 2nd through 5th. That's when the 2016 Tupelo Comic Con fills the Link Centre with a celebration of all things sci-fi, fantasy, and pop culture. Expect all sorts of celebrity appearances, cosplay, collectibles, and more. Get your tickets today – this event is sure to sell out.

Families make their way to downtown Tupelo on May 14th and 15th to experience the 2016 Gumtree Festival. Free and open to the public, the 45th Annual Gumtree Festival features visual and performing arts, vendors, and even the inaugural Gumtree Run. Mississippi’s premier fine arts festival starts around 10 a.m. both days.

June 2nd through 5th, the 2016 Tupelo Elvis Festival is a celebration of Tupelo’s most famous son. The event sees downtown Tupelo fill with cover bands, impersonators, tasty local food offerings and countless vendors of King-themed merchandise.
